How are John Hardy diamonds and gemstones sourced?Updated 17 days ago

The diamonds and gemstones used in our jewelry are treated to improve appearance and/or durability. Certain treatments are permanent, and do not alter the way in which gemstones should be cared for. Other treatments, however, may require special care for longevity and to preserve their dramatic appearance. If you have any questions regarding which stones are treated, and how they are treated, please contact Client Care by email or call us at 888.838.3022.

Sourcing

John Hardy is a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) as well as being compliant to the Kimberly Process. John Hardy is committed to RJC’s Code of Practices to ensure our stones, diamonds and metals are conflict-free and ethically produced every step of the way. We also work with suppliers who guarantee that the silver and gold we use in our pieces is reclaimed, reducing the need to mine for metals.

The same sense of responsibility is applied to our packaging. From our jewelry boxes to our shopping bags, all paper materials are now certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, a non-profit that manages the environmental and economic benefits of trees.

The Responsible Jewellry Council

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is a not-for-profit, standards-setting and certification organization for the watch and jewellery industry. John Hardy is one of its more than 1,800 member companies, which span the jewelry supply chain from mine to retail.

Like all RJC Members, we have committed to RJC’s Code of Practices — an international standard on responsible business practices for diamonds, colored gemstones, gold, silver and platinum group metals. This code covers areas such as human rights, labor rights, environmental impact, mining practices, product disclosure, provenance claims and other topics of critical importance in the jewelry industry. We pledge to uphold it, and are independently audited against it, as are all RJC member companies.

In addition to joining the RJC ourselves, we partner exclusively with retailers, suppliers and other partners who uphold RJC’s standards. This ensures that every step of John Hardy’s manufacturing and delivery is responsibly conducted.

RJC also creates initiatives around responsible sourcing and supply chain due diligence and offers certifications such as Chain-of-Custody certification for precious metals. This certification ensures that metals such as gold, platinum and rhodium are conflict-free and are responsibly produced at every step of the process.

The Kimberly Process

The Kimberley Process is a joint government, international diamond industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds.

John Hardy complies with Kimberly Process Certification Scheme. We warrant that our diamonds have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict, in compliance with United Nations Resolutions and corresponding national laws. We hereby guarantee that these diamonds are conflict free and confirms adherence to the WDC SoW Guidelines.”
